electric trams of Arnhem, Netherlands

The electric tram system around this city was created on lines of the old horse tram system (in kaapspor or cape gauge) in 1911 by De Gemeente Electrische Tram Arnhem (GETA).  By the late 1930s there were plans to replace the trams with trolleybuses, but WW2 delayed this.  What stopped the trams was the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944 (the subject of the movie A Bridge too Far) and the equipment that wasn't destroyed in the battle and the rails were sold after the war.
