by electric railway to Mariatrost Basilica, Graz, Austria

Leopold Halling HO scale model

The basilica was built in 1724.

The 5.3 km "Mariatroster Bahn" or "Rote Bahn" ('red railway' on account of the red cars) metre-gauge electric railway was opened from Zinzendorfgasse via the Hilmteich to Mariatrost on 20 January 1898, more than a year before the city electric tram system was electrified.  Over 1939-1941 it was converted to standard gauge and incorporated into the Graz tram system, line 1.
